Damn those memes!

Randal at L'ennui melodieux has tagged me with the 7 random facts meme--the meme that just wouldn't die!

So--here are the rules:
List 7 random things about yourself that people may not know.Link the person who sent this to you, and leave a comment on their blog so that their readers can visit yours.Post the rules on your blog.Tag 7 random people at the end of your post, linking their blog. Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

And now--what random things don’t you know about me?

1. I often have vivid dreams in color. I even remark on the colors of things in my dreams, so I know they’re in color, despite what I’ve read and heard that we all dream in black and white.

2. I’ve never had the mumps, measles, chicken pox, or flu. Just lucky, I guess. Of course, now when someone even mentions the chicken pox, I have a total flip-out and start interrogating them about whether someone they know has it, have they been exposed, etc. I sure don’t want to get it now, or I’d probably end up in the hospital!

3. Until the age of 36, I had never been east of Houston, Texas.

4. When I was little, I used to like to sleep only in my pajama pants, no shirt. After bath-time, I would put on the pants, slick my wet hair back like Ron Ely, and race around the house pretending to be Tarzan. (complete with beating on my chest like an ape) My mother always made me put on the shirt before I went to bed, though. Now, I hate to sleep without a shirt on, for some reason, but I do still slick the hair back sometimes.

5. I’m very much the introvert when it comes to meeting people, and I have very few close friends. My introversion (which some would call “social anxiety disorder” and prescribe medicine for… uh -- heh heh?) was one of the big reasons I quit teaching. It was too much like being on stage every day.

6. I can finish an NYT crossword puzzle alone—even the weekend ones. And yet I suck at Scrabble.

7. My many jobs/careers: sacker at grocery store, Domino’s Pizza cook, teaching college English, lay-about, retail sales/management, graphic design, managing editor at a trade non-fiction publisher, more graphic design and business-forms production, Domino’s Pizza driver, staffing agency recruiter, business-to-business sales, and marketing clerk. (I think that’s everything…?)

I am reluctant to tag anyone, let alone seven freakin' people, so I'll just say -- those of you who have random facts to reveal -- I will not say you "nay!"

Scrabble and crosswords are two completely different animals. Don't sweat it. I'm the opposite.

I thought only dogs dreamed in black and white. Oh wait, maybe only when they're chasing rabbits.

I think teaching should be enough to give anybody social anxiety disorder. I'm getting anxious just thinking about it.

I can't do a crossword puzzle worth shite, but I have a huge vocab and am pretty good at scrabble.

Tarzan- I love that image!!

I realized that I didn't have you on my blog roll. Correction made.

Thanks for playing! I've never had chicken pox either, but the one that's similar - roseola, or something like that? Still itched like hell, let me tell you.

For someone that's an introvert, you sure have had a lot of extroverted jobs. ;-)

Dreaming in black and white seems so illogical to me. Does anyone (other than an art student with a penchant for film noir, mayhaps?) dream in black and white? Before the infancy of photography, would anyone have even thought of the possibility of dreaming in black and white? Just saying.

But thanks for that. I'll add you to my list of people I now know dream in color.

Oh, and Ron Ely? Hubba-hubba!

I'm in the same boat with you on number five. I sometimes wonder how I can make it through what I do everyday being around so many people.

Hmm.
1. I do the NYT crossword in pen, hoping someone will notice and remark on my supposed intelligence.
2. Puppies and kittens make me melt like the girliest girly girl.
3. I married the same man twice and I adored him, though he and I were both gay as geese.
4. I can bench press 140 pounds when I'm in shape.
5. I find it easier to speak before a group of 1,000 people than make chitchat at a cocktail party.
6. I am a really good artist and used to be a professional illustrator/ art director before I got burned out.
7. I once punched a guy who was robbing me at gunpoint when he tried to cop a feel. He ran off and I went after him, until I remembered the "he has a gun" part.

Great post. I've found a website that can help you overcome
anxiety disorder and such. Might want to give it a try at www.attackanxiety.org

I'm the opposite; so-so at crossword puzzles, but rather good at Scrabble

DCap--I get the NYT puzzle in our local paper, so I don't have to buy the "gray lady."

GKL--cool.

Barbara--when I imagine going back to it (out of desperation for money), I break out in a cold sweat.

Fran--Kat is the same way; she's better with numbers.

Mathman--thanky!

Randal--graphic design was cool in that I just sat at my computer and spoke to no one unless it was just to bitch about work or tell jokes to stay awake.

Earl--great point about the photography question! I think it's just B.S. about black and white. The mind is way too creative for that.

Karen--re the NYT--but no one ever does, do they!? I do the same thing, expecting SOMEONE to effing pay attention to my brilliance! But so far--nuthin. Self-involved a-holes.

Jason--thanks.

CDP--now I know not to play you in Scrabble (or Scribble, as I like to call it).

Holy crap, you've never had the flu, chicken pox, or any of that stuff? I guess you'd be one of those survivors in the Steven King novel, The Stand...fightin' off Satan.

Great list, kiddo!

Fairlane--that is one scary-ass avatar; if you're 12 feet tall to boot -- eek.

ME--YOU'RE BACK!!! I'm so happy! Yay! And yup -- I'm just lucky, I guess.
