Cinema Gold -- a spin-off
Bloggy hero Distributorcap in NY has been writing a lot lately about movies, and one of his latest posts lists great actors in what he feels were their best performances. So many great ones on his list: Jessica Lange in Frances, Barbara Stanwyck in Double Indemnity, and my top pick Lee Remick in Anatomy of a Murder.
What I'd like to do is open it up a little: I'll give you an actor's name and let YOU pick what you think was that actor's best performance. Some of them will be tough: what WAS Henry Fonda's best performance? Was it in The Grapes of Wrath as DCap said, or was it my pick for Fonda, On Golden Pond? Or perhaps in some other film?
Some of these actors will be tough for different reasons, like if I were to pick an actor who is (in my opinion) not very good, like Keanu Reeves. . . or Prince.
So let's start off with a slow pitch right down the center of the plate:
What is Kevin Costner's best movie performance to date?

JFK.
Waterworld. Shoot. Either that or The Postman, but I think Waterworld.
I was going to say The Big Chill, but that's just mean. I haven't seen all that many Costner films, so I am going with Bull Durham.
Dr. Monkey--that's a good one. I was thinking Dances with Wolves, but JFK was really good thanks to him.
Bubs and Babs--You guys are just mean!
What's mean about suggesting Bull Durham? I think it's mean of you to suggest otherwise, meanie!
I think JFK, but The Untouchables was a pretty entertaining movie...still, I think Sean Connery stood out more than Costner in that movie.
"Bull Durham". Second choice "No Way Out"
Kevin Costner? The proud graduate of the William Shatner School of Full Face and Profile?
The only actor that could make Robin Hood flat and boring as Iowa? You mean he's played more than one part?
Oh, wait.
Regards,
Tengrain
The Big Chill consolidated his full acting range.
Sorry, but after I saw him talking on Bill Mahar's 'Real Time,' I realized the guy is dumber than a stump.
And you know me in real life, I'm not mean.
:P
Randal--hee hee.
CDP--not surprising.
DadE--good choices.
Tengrain--hey, I don't think you like Costner, do you?
Zip--true dat.
"The Untouchables" was about the only KC movie I ever liked. "No Way Out" had some good, suspenseful writing going for it and anyone would have done decently in the lead.
