It seems Pope Ratzy is still promoting the dangerous Catholic policy against condoms in the fight against the spread of HIV. The worst part is that not only is he saying that condoms are bad, but that they "increase the problem"--which is an outright falsehood.
A Reuters report quotes the idiot as saying, "It (AIDS) cannot be overcome by the distribution of condoms. On the contrary, they increase the problem." And how exactly does that happen? How is that even possible? Condoms stop the exchange of bodily fluids in which the virus is carried. DUH. Explain to me how they "increase the problem," Ratzy, because I think you're a big fat liar.
Rather than rely on, oh I don't know, SCIENCE, logic, and all the evidence that proves condoms work to help prevent the spread of HIV, the idiot pope cites this brilliant strategery* instead:
Yeah. That's is. Correct behavior. (Like those child-molesting priests?) Because Catholicism teaches people all about healthy sexuality, doesn't it?"The only solution is two-fold: the first is a humanisation of sexuality, a human, spiritual renewal which brings with it a new way of behaving among people and, secondly, a true friendship, especially for those who are suffering, a willingness to make personal sacrifices," he said.
He called for "correct behaviour regarding one's body".
This position is irresponsible and dangerous. It's like sanctioning murder to deny condoms to people who can and will have sex. If he truly values life, he should preach that whatever saves life--whether it's abstinence or condoms--is a good thing.

Well, he did just recently say that even he makes mistakes (going back on a gajillion years of that whole "infallibility of the pope" thing), maybe this is just one example
Seriously, this man is the leader of a church that for years went out of its way to protect and hide child molesters from justice. He shouldn't be allowed to speak in public unless he is accompanied by calliope music and tumbling monkeys.
You know I can't really say anything other than I am sorry.
Oh my. Mind bogglingly mind boggling.
Bet he makes his escorts wear a condom.
Kirby--Amen!
Fran--I wondered how you'd react to this post. I'm sorry too.
SorCrow--indeed.
PiNY--ouch!
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, but I'm certainly not surprised. This coming from the man who supported the excommunication of a 9-year-old girl in Brazil for having an abortion after being raped by her stepfather. Disgusting.
A calliope and monkeys - ha ha ha. Obviously condoms increase the spread of HIV/Aids because they endorse free and easy sex and since they're also fallible. The argument is specious of course because it assumes that if condoms are not available, everyone will stop having all that nasty sex. That's like saying stop selling raincoats and umbrellas if you don't want it to rain anymore
Embee--thanks for coming by the bloggy--and your blog is awesome. I had heard about that case of the 9-yr-old. That alone should get every church official involved ex-communicated. Blinded by their own "faith." I have to agree with you that the kid is probably better off away from that insanity, but I'm sure it's now very difficult for her and for her family to live in the community. Poor kid; to be only 9 but to have experienced so much horror.
XUP--brilliant analogy.
WTF does he know?
To fight against the use of condoms is the fight against common sense. To the extent that people already engage in sexual activitices, condoms can hardly be seeen as exascerbating the problem. I think the real issue is to teach responsible sexual behavior. Preaching abstinence is an anachronism that's out of touch with reality. You can find more of this perspective at: http://www.ricoexplainsitall.com/politcs-economy/2009/3/20/sex-and-the-vatican-city.html
Instead he must consider the condom just another Medicine no Prescription solution.
