Random question

Tired of thinking today; I am working on a mind-numbing project at work which involves check part numbers online. 3,400 part numbers. Three thousand four hundred partnos. As Matty Boy so aptly put it:

Only I think I have the cross-eyed, from looking at this spreadsheet of partnos.

So here's my question for you, as I look up partnos and listen to music in my tiny cubey:

Who's your favorite singer of all time? I mean, the one you think is the best voice you've ever heard.

DG - Choosing a favorite singer of all time is a hard because of the many different styles and genres of music, not the choice by gender. I can't just choose one. I have several.

But one of those singer/performers that came to my mind is Sarah McLachlan. I will stop and listen to her sing anytime.

I loves the dumb!

Favorite singer? You are killing me. As a person with boundary issues and trouble setting limits, you want one?

paul mccartney's got a great voice for a mainstream rock n roll band. i prefer it to freddy mercury and the like. but i'm also a big fan of doug marsh's freakishly high-pitched ramblings...

You're going to have nightmares not of zombies and Republicans, but of giant numerals stalking you to the ends of the earth. Sweet dreams! Muahahahaha!

Favorite singer? Impossible! because of what spartacus said. Depends on what mood I'm in and what style.

Sorry, I'm also unable to choose just one (or even just one male and one female).

Hello everyone. On my crosspost on the birdy blog, everyone picked a female singer, at least one. Political types are just less decisive, I guess!

Spartacus--good choice, and an excellent songwriter to boot.

Fran--I'm mean that way.

Kreplech--welcome to the bloggy! What an interesting choice--McCartney does have a wonderful voice--he can sing almost anything. Freddy Mercury never even occurred to me, but I do think he was a great singer. Doug Marsh--who?

Randal--no kidding! I figured you'd name some opera diva.

CDP--name a few then!

For pure, unadulterated beauty, Judy Collins has the best voice among female singers, IMHO. But her voice is not warm. Maybe Joan Baez for that extra touch of warmth.

Men? That's hard. Most modern male singers have more of a rough tenor to their voices. So Dylan, Bruce and certainly Tom Waits, don't qualify, LOL, much as I like them!

I'm not an opera fan so no operatic types for me.

I'll be the '80s geek and say I really like Pat Benatar's voice. She's all I can think of right now.

I'm going against the grain here, and picking boy singers. Plus I can only narrow it down to three. One is impossible.

In no particular order - Jonsi Birgisson (Sigur Ros), Thom Yorke (Radiohead), Stuart Murdoch (Belle and Sebastian). They can all make the angels weep.

Favorite singer does not equal best voice for me. Favorite singer? Today, maybe Townes Van Zandt. Best voice of singers I like? Doc Watson? Gillian Welch?

but I do have a tin ear.

John Doe makes me ache in some place deep inside.

And my beloved Maria McKee can sing rings around Barnum and Bailey.
