Court okays Bush's telecom spying

So a federal appeals court has upheld immunity for the telecoms -- among them, AT&T and Verizon -- that helped the Bush administration spy on U.S. citizens without a warrant.

I guess it's still true what Nixon said: "When the President does it, that means it's not illegal."

Which, I guess, excuses Obama's administration too, right? After all, no one seems in any hurry to bring charges of murder for the civilians killed by our drone strikes in Pakistan; just like no one prosecuted Darth Cheney and Chimpy for the Iraqi civilians killed in that debacle.

I know I'll sleep better at night knowing that what Nixon (of all people) said is still true today.

Sickening, isn't it? But....things can change on a dime sometimes. Something is coming.

gmb, doesn't it HAVE to be coming? I keep waiting for the tipping point, but I seem to only be getting sicker and sicker as we tip and tip and tip. Next stop, fascism?

We have lost our democracy. It's just a matter of when people will truly admit it.

BTW, I used to be liberality but I've changed my name.

I think you're right, LAIKIN (formerly Liberality--nice to hear from you!). I'm reading a history of the life of Cornelius Vanderbilt and I'm amazed at the analysis of the political and social situations of the time. I will probably write a post about it; it's strange to see parallels between what people wanted their government to be back then and what we want it to be now.
