a random thought

I once heard, "the rulers are not of the ruled." Truer words were never spoken; this truism explains so much about why our government is screwing us daily.

But today I started to wonder: just where DO the rulers come from? Old-money families? If that were true, Tom "Hot Tub Tom" DeLay wouldn't have had to make a living killing bugs. Power cabals? Please--like Darling Lindsey was ever part of anything powered besides a Folsom Street Fair Fucking Machine. (and no, I'm not inserting links--my Mac is old and I have to type out the HTML, and I'm too lazy and tired to do that right now)

So just where DO these sorry excuses for people come from? Ted Kennedy came from a rich powerful family, but he NEVER abandoned his liberal leanings or turned his back on the poor and powerless who believed in him. So where did these republicans come from?

Delia this is very thought provoking.

Thank you for putting this up. I am glad for no links, I am already a bit queasy over the thought of Hot Tub... Oh I can't even finish the sentence.

I think there's a cracker factory on the outskirts of town.

They are people who desperately want to be in the elite and since they aren't beautiful, can't sing or dance, have no discernible talent or intellectual curiosity whatsoever...well, that leaves politics. Hope this helps.

Kennedy was possibly the last of a class whic recognized the responsibilities of noblesse oblige.

they endlessly told the story of old Rose Kennedy preaching to her boys that "to whom much is given, much is expected."

These new fuckers are arrivistes, parvenus, the worst kinds of inelegant pretenders. Even Bush, whose wealth is of approximately the same age as the Kennedy's, is a grasping sycophant.

Appendix: they're a bunch of gatsbys, cyphers made not of self-knowledge but of ambition and cash.

Fran--I know, it's nauseating, isn't it?

Randal--must be.

PiNY--Brilliant. Sad, but brilliant.

Woody--Amen to that. The Bush's money could be as old as the Bible but it still won't ever give Chimpy a whit of class, much less "noblesse oblige." Those Kennedys were amazing. Perfect analogy with Gatsby too--though at least Gatsby tried hard and was somewhat sympathetic. These assholes get no sympathy or liking from me.
